“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16 CSB

Leading up to John 3:16, Nicodemus (a religious leader) goes to meet Jesus at night. This is where Jesus shares with Nicodemus that if anyone would like to see the kingdom of God, he would have to be born again. Nicodemus did not understand this response and asked Jesus about how someone would enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born again. See, Nicodemus was looking at this purely from a human experience.

“Jesus answered, ‘Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born again. The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.’” - John 3: 5-8 CSB

The conversation continues on between Jesus and Nicodemus. Nicodemus still does not understand the things Jesus is telling him about. Jesus continues on and shares the plan of salvation with Nicodemus. That Jesus has been sent so that the entire world could receive salvation through him. All someone has to do is believe in Christ and accept the gift of salvation that He has given them. This is wonderful news, not only for Nicodemus, but also for you and I. God sent Jesus so that we could all have the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
