“When all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized. As he was praying, heaven opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in a physical appearance like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well-pleased.” - Luke 3:21-22 CSB
This passage brings to completion the prophecy from Isaiah 42 with God stating that this is His Son, or servant, in whom He is pleased and takes delight. Just imagine being present at this time, this man who you don’t know and has been introduced to you as the Lamb of God, come to take away the sin of the world, has been baptized just as you and many others present at the moment. The difference being that when He was raised from the water, the very heavens opened up and you were able to see the Spirit of God falling upon Him and then to hear the voice of God speak about the pleasure that He takes in who this person is.
If we can take away one thing from this, it is that even the Father in Heaven responded when it was made known the presence of and identity of Jesus, His Son. So should we respond when we encounter the love of Jesus in our lives, that we would say, “Look, it is Jesus, the Son of God, the Lamb who was slain for the sin of the world, the one who has redeemed us all, the one who pleases the Father that He might also be pleased with us.”
