“For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his  shoulders.  He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” - Isaiah 9:6 CSB

Continuing with the prophecy of the coming Messiah and the names that He would be given or called, we see here more identifiers of who Jesus would be to the people of Israel, the nation of God’s chosen people whom He called out of Egypt.  Foretold yet again that He will come as a child born into the world much the same way that we are, but that this child would have the government on His shoulders.  Shoulders here represent power and authority, responsibility.  Jesus was coming to be the answer to what is wrong with the world.  Unfortunately, the people of Israel were looking for their king as a conquering hero and not a babe in a manger, which is why many missed the truth of who Jesus is.

We can see today that Jesus is the Messiah that Isaiah foretold, that He did come as a child and took upon him the responsibility for the entire world, by bearing our sin and shame at the cross, to conquer the ultimate foe, death, once and for all.  A conquering hero if there ever was one, dressed as a servant to bring peace to the world.
